So Far the iPhone 5 is a Hit

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 last Friday topped 2 million, double the number of pre-orders for the iPhone 4S when it was released.

Or to put it another way, as the chart above shows, it took the original iPhone 74 days to sell 1 million; it took the iPhone 5 half a day.  (Chart from here.)

New orders for the iPhone 5 in the US now have a 2-3 week wait for shipping.

Here in Hong Kong, there are no online pre-orders.  One can use the iPhone App Store app to make reservations for in-store pick-up starting on Thursday.

Oh, yeah, Apple’s stock hit 700.

I did the online reservation with 3 but I’d prefer to buy one without a contract and avoid having to further extend my 3 deal if possible.
