From Fox News:
The author of a recently announced insider account of the raid that killed Usama bin Laden has been identified to Fox News as a 36-year-old former Navy SEAL Team 6 member from Alaska who also played a role in the high-profile rescue of an American captain kidnapped by Somali pirates.
The book, “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden,” is set to hit shelves on Sept 11. It is penned under the pseudonym “Mark Owen,” according to the publisher, but multiple sources told Fox News his name is in fact Matt Bissonnette, 36, of Wrangell, Alaska. Bissonnette could be exposing himself to legal trouble, as the Pentagon has not vetted the account.
Yeah, he could be exposing himself to legal trouble but Fox News has just exposed him to Al Qaeda reprisals.
Fox News’s hypocrisy can be further seen if one looks at this item they reported in July 2011:
The Gawker website is under fire for trying to expose the CIA agent who may have helped lead the effort to kill Usama Bin Laden – despite efforts by the U.S. government and media to keep his identity secret for security reasons.
“This whole business of exposing people is a real serious matter. It’s not entertainment, some people may think it is, but it’s not … There are real people out there that are going to be killed because of this,” said Charles Faddis, a former CIA operations officer who spent 20 years working international hot spots and who headed the CIA’s Terrorist Weapons of Mass Destruction Unit before retiring in 2008.
“I don’t have a lot of patience for this,” added Faddis, speaking about attempts to out the identity of a CIA operative. “This is serious, this is really serious. It’s completely irresponsible.”
The above news item doesn’t specifically take a stand on this although it certainly could be seen that way as they went to the trouble of hunting down a supposed expert to condemn Gawker’s actions. And it does quote from only the negative comments on the Gawker site including this one that ends the Fox report: You should still be ashamed of yourselves.”
So apparently to Fox this is not okay when someone else does it but perfectly fine when they do it.
