Cloud Atlas Extended Trailer

Share

This is worth looking at:

The trailer (link here in case you can’t see the video embedded above) is for the film The Cloud Atlas.  The trailer runs almost 6 minutes!  Coming in October, the film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving.  Based on the novel by David Mitchell, there are three directors credited here:  Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) and the Wachowski Brothers Siblings (Laurence Wachowski having completed his sex change and now officially Lana).

This movie is either going to be amazing or horrible, there won’t be an in-between.  Not having read the book, the trailer strikes me as somewhat similar to Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain – themes seem similar, spanning centuries, philosophical quest for meaning and love – a film with a mind-blowing trailer that left me scratching my head.

I read part of Mitchell’s novel before I had any conception of it being put to celluloid (or, digital these days, right?). I have been somewhat impressed with Mitchell’s canon since the New York Times did a Sunday magazine story on him a couple years back, I think (link here:: http://goo.gl/gWAqd ).

Trailer looks good but I’ll be keeping an eye on metacritic.

There’s a film? Of this book? Wow. You are right – it will either be super or super shit. It was hardly a format that worked as a book – I have NFI how they will translate that on to the screen. Well worth a read though if only because you will have never quite read anything like it before, as a whole at least.

And that mish mash of words above is why I’m not a book reviewer.

There were a couple of trailers to very epic-looking movies last week. Ang Lee’s trailer for Life of Pi looks pretty spectacular as well.

I’ve started it as well, though my time for reading books at the moment is very limited. I liked what I read so far.
