No, not me. Believe me, if I had some idea to put up there, I would definitely give it a try. No, the Spike that’s on Kickstarter is what looks to be a very clever combination iPhone case and fold-away keyboard.
As you can see, it’s a physical Blackberry-like QWERTY keyboard that sits over your iPhone screen and folds back into the case when not being used. You can see all the deets on their Kickstarter page.
They’ve got until August 11th to raise US$75,000 for this. As of now, they’ve raised $16,606. They have various pledge levels ranging from $5 to over $10,000. Pledges in the $20-$100 range will mean that you’ll get to be one of the first people to own one of these. Higher pledges get you free upgrades, limited edition models, and “distributor packs.”
I like the whole Kickstarter thing. Of course it generally only works if your product idea gets linked to so that it gets in front of a lot of eyeballs (essentially what I’m doing now, as have some of my blogger buddies). I wish I had some idea that I could put up there. A product that could be cheaply manufactured in China? Funding for me to finish my long-delayed book? I wonder if I could crowd source an idea to throw up there?
(The grammar is a bit awkward in that last sentence, isn’t it? Just to be clear, my idea isn’t to throw up there, it’s to throw an idea up there.)
