Predating all of the fart apps on the iTunes store, apparently in Japan’s Edo period (1603 to 1868) scrolls depicting fart competitions were all the rage.  Dangerous Minds says these were called he-gassen (“fart competitions”).  Is this for real or is it a hoax?
