So Wednesday they installed the new air conditioners.  It took 3 guys 8 hours to do it.

I’d gone out for dinner while they were working.  When I came home the first thing I saw was them in the village car park talking to the police.  It seems that they’d loaded up their cart with their tools and were wheeling it back to their van and somehow managed to hit a car with the cart.  Why did the car owner and these guys need to call the police?  They need it for the insurance report, of course.  Why they couldn’t settle it directly between them?  Buddha only knows.

Then I got home and found out that on the 2nd floor of the house, there was no phone, no internet and no NOW TV.  (Everything on the first floor was fine.)  Seems that when they were drilling a new hole for the air con conduit (or whatever it is) they managed to drill through a pipe and through the PCCW cable inside that pipe.

I have no internet connection on the first floor so couldn’t resort to that.  And the mobile signal on all networks is so poor that I couldn’t check email via PCCW (pocket WiFi), 3 (mobile phone) or SmarTone (blackberry).  All are useless in this village.

PCCW couldn’t send a repair man out till today.  He figured out the problem quickly enough but told me he couldn’t fix it.  I finally got him to string a temporary line up the side of the house and in via a window, so I have everything working at the moment.  The air con guys are coming back this afternoon but I don’t know what that’s going to do – the landlord says it’s now up to them to fix the pipe they broke and get a new cable running through it.  I have about zero confidence that they can do that.

So I can’t wait till I get home tonight to find out what they fixed and what else they managed to break.
