One thing these numbers don’t tell you is the reason why so many people use Facebook.  Millions of words have been written on this; I suppose an easy answer is because you use it because so many people you know use it.  Or to promote a business.  Or to see pictures of women.  Whatever.

The other thing these numbers don’t tell is that regardless of how many people are using Facebook now and regardless of the growth it will continue to have, I’ll predict that within the next couple of years someone will come along and eat Facebook’s lunch, just as they’ve done to MySpace (and Google?).  That’s the one constant internet theme – success, especially massive success, seems to be transitory.  I remember when my start page was a portal on Excite ….
