I had a few other choice words!

I thought I had lost the FA 31's custom aluminium lens cap... then I woke in the morning to find it in the camera bag. Excellent!

... but where was the camera and lens? Now I have a nice, shiny, green felt-lined lens cap to taunt me.

I try to not let these things get me down though. It's a small problem in the scheme of things.

Just as well my sister-in-law's wedding is postponed, or I'd have to go out and buy the same kit right away. Now I have time to see what Canon and Nikon bring out in the mirrorless segment, and whether Pentax bring out a D90 sized full frame.

In the meantime, my unspectacular but remarkably versatile Canon SX1 IS will have to do. I took it to the Victoria Park flower show today and got some surprisingly good macros. It's also fab at autofocus + zoom 1080P video of the kids. Plus it's PASM (as limited as a pinkie-nail sized sensor allows) and has a hot shoe.

It'll do (says he as he shuffles of to 1001noisycameras.com)

Recent 70-200 review here:

http://www.photocrati.com/nikon-70-200mm-f2-8g-af-s-ed-vr-ii-lens-review-field-test-report/

Nice lens. I just couldn't lug around a full frame and the beasts it deserves to shine.

Mind you, I'm in the market after leaving my Pentax K-x and favourite FA 31 lens in a cab earlier this week! D'oh.

Obviously I'm aware of that. I don't see any need to hide my identity any more. Good luck on your move here!

The new 70-200mm VR II is going for around $18k I think. I've thought about picking up a used D700 (I see gray market ones on DC Fever around $11k) but I want the features that I expect a D700s (or D800?) to have so I'm waiting. The 24-70mm makes damned sweet pics with the D300 too (so much better than my 18-200mm it's not even funny).

"If and when I do get another job, one of the first things I plan to do to celebrate is to get the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII lens"

The 24-70mm was born to make sweet, sweet pictures with a full frame camera like a D700. Instead of buying the 70-200mm (which admittedly is a cracking bit of gear), I'd trade in the D300 (or keep it as a backup) and get a D700. Around HK$18k new or as low as about $14k second hand (about the same price as the 70-200 if I'm not mistaken). Plus, if rumours of the D700s come to fruition (is that the right word?), then the old D700 will drop in price pretty quickly.

Music Man is one of the great films. Robert Preston as the con man is superb and I bought the sound track and laugh out loud at some of the songs on it. Only Bollywood films exhibit the same type of brio that these old musicals had in abundance.

I'm aware that the font colors are relatively close. However, I can see them on my monitor okay; it may be a matter of how yours is configured. One of these days if I get time maybe I'll edit the style sheet to make a slight change to the color.
