Oops I Didn’t Blog Today!

Just a lot of unexpected things came up – and a day that was planned to be one at home ended up being one of appointments and meetings.
But just so I’m not leaving you completely empty handed – a friend on Facebook posted a link to this op piece on Huffington Post by Paul Slansky. It’s short so I’m gonna give you the entire thing:
She took great umbrage at Rahm Emanuel’s use of the phrase “fucking retards,” then excused Rush Limbaugh’s subsequent reference to a “retard summit” as “satire.” She snarked to the Tea Partiers about President Obama’s use of a teleprompter, then was caught during the Q&A sneaking peeks at her hand, where she had pathetically scribbled crib notes in the idiotic belief that no one would notice them. (“Energy,” “Tax,” and “Lift American Spirits” — she was afraid she’d forget those deep thoughts?) And, of course, there was, “How’s that hopey-changey stuff workin’ out for ya?” which, in all my years of watching politics, is the most viscerally nauseating utterance I’ve ever heard. And these are just from the past week.
After a year and a half of exposure to this virulently toxic presence, the question on the table is: In our lifetime, has there ever been a worse human being in American politics than Sarah Palin? For all the morons and criminals and bigots we’ve been subjected to, has there been anyone else who has combined all of the fetid qualities — the proud ignorance, the sadistic viciousness, the shameless hypocrisy, the arrogant laziness, the congenital dishonesty, the unctuous sanctimony, the bilious resentment, and whichever others I’m forgetting for the moment — that this morals-free harridan so relentlessly displays? (Not to mention that atonal bray with which she communicates it all.)
Talk amongst yourselves.

OK, so Slansky bemoans Palin’s allegedly “virulently toxic presence,” and then follows with a tsunami of shrill, childish name-calling. Am I the only one who noted the irony in this? Or are the Huffington Post’s writers and readers all too blinded by Palin Derangement Syndrome to see their own hypocrisy?
The silliness doesn’t stop there, though. Does Slansky believe there isn’t a difference between “retard summit” and “f***ing retards”? And is there a difference between Palin’s hand-writing, as it were, and The Smartest Man In The Universe’s using a teleprompter to talk to a group of sixth-graders less than a month earlier?
As irritating as this double standard is, at least I can take comfort in the fact that Palin will be around to drive Slansky bonkers for a long, long time.

Boy, she really gets the Left riled up, doesn’t she? Ronald Reagan had the same effect on the liberals of his day, and of course we’ve enjoyed nearly a decade of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) that the present White House still can’t shake.

Why do liberals fear Sarah so much? Is it because they fear middle of the road, common sense people take to her?
That op ed is oneof the most vicous, nauseating pieces of virulent ink I have read in a long time.
Hows that hopey, changey stuff working out for ya, liberals?

Well, in reply to the question “Has there ever been a worse human being than Sarah Palin?” a certain George W Bush does come to mind…….

It’s so easy to bait neo-cons, isn’t it? Simply use the tactics they’ve been using for the past 20 years and they cry and moan “unfair!” I’m not sure which is funnier – is it the way that neo-cons continue to cling to their failed ideologies? Or is it that the best hope of the Republican party is a former beauty queen with a double digit IQ, nice penmanship and a handful of cutesy-pie slogans that someone wrote for her to take the place of any actual substance or ideas. To answer your question, the hopey changey stuff is working out a lot better than the hopeless changeless swath of destruction that is Bush’s legacy.

OK, wait a minute, Spike. You’re begrudging Palin for her “handful of cutesy-pie slogans”? Thanks for proving my point about double standards. As for “failed ideologies,” have you looked at Obama’s approval ratings lately?

What point about double standards? There’s no substance behind Palin’s slogans. There are no ideas, no plans, no proposals beyond vague generalizations.

Actually there have been politicians who are as vile as Palin before-the difference is that the American people used to be smart enought to consign them to the margins of society.
Now-as I can well attest to in the backward part of the nation where I live-people are willing to go to the wall for her.
And they wonder why we are getting our asses handed to us……….

I’m not sure what “tactics” Spike is referring to, but on the question of “fairness”, I can’t believe that any sensible person who follows US politics could seriously believes that mainstream media coverage is even remotely “fair” when it comes to treatment of liberal vs. conservative political figures? Or has been remotely fair, going back to at least the 1960′s.
As to Mr. Slansky’s question as to whether there has been any worse human being in Amercian politics than Ms. Palin, the answer is “yes”, and the list is long. I’ll offer just a few random nominees:
George Wallace
Ted Kennedy
Richard Nixon
Patricia Schroeder
Joseph McCarthy
John Kerry
John Murtha
Gerry Studds
Spiro Agnew
Wilbur Mills
Jesse Jackson
I’d prefer Sarah Palin in the White House over all of these superstars!
