TheWrap.com reports that in 2009, WB became the first studio to gross more than $2 billion in the US and having a 20% share of the theatrical film market.  Three films:  the 6th Harry Potter film, The Hangover, The Blind Side accounted for $1.7 billion.  The New Line division added another half a billion from three films – Final Destination 3D, He’s Just Not That Into You, 17 Again.  Where the Wild Things Are and Watchmen didn’t earn back their money, at least not theatrically.  But they’ve got Sherlock Holmes for Christmas and next year is Sex and the City 2, Clash of the Titans remake and others that could do well at the box office.

In 2009 WB rewarded the hard efforts of its employees that led to this outstanding performance by laying off hundreds of people.  No one will admit the final number, I suspect it’s somewhere around 1,500 to 2,000.
