Tourists Hate HK Restaurants

The SCMP reports results of a tourist poll conducted by Polytechnic University’s school of hotel and tourism management. They surveyed 2,841 tourists last summer and asked them to rate their satisfaction on a variety of Hong Kong features and services.
What did tourists like the best about Hong Kong? Transportation and immigration.
What did tourists like least about Hong Kong? Restaurants and shops.
Unfortunately they didn’t ask the tourists to explain their reasons. Though I suppose it’s not too hard to guess. Overpriced restaurants with crappy food and poor service and a ridiculous service charge? Check. Shops with poor selection, high prices, ignorant and rude staff? Check.
Okay, I’m exaggerating. There are plenty of shops and restaurants here that I like or even love. But for every good experience I’ve had, there’s been 5 or 10 bad ones behind it.
