And while I’m on the subject of things that suck, at least for non-Chinese readers in Hong Kong, here’s a clip from the latest email from Autotoll – or an “eDM” as they have pukingly decided to call it.

Note that they are able to specify the terms and conditions of their sales promotions in both English and Chinese, but apparently it’s too much trouble for them to translate the sales promotions themselves.  You want it in English, then you gotta call them.  I mean, come on, how difficult would it be to prepare both English and Chinese versions, have you enter your language preference on their web site and then feed you the proper version?

Then again, perhaps this is an improvement.  Because for last month’s mailing, it did say for the English version, to go visit their web site.  Where there was no link on the English landing page; one had to click through about 4 levels to find the corresponding English version to their mailing.

But what I also love is how they are using this crap presumably to reward and retain current members, attract new ones, but they don’t stand behind the crap they’re pushing.  “No responsibility or liability … shall not be liable … not responsible for the provision of any such products/services … Autotoll does not endorse any of such products [sic] …”  So they advertise them, they directly market them to you, but they don’t endorse them?  What’s up with that?  “Um, er, here’s some shit we want you to go and buy but if you do and it sucks, even though we’re the ones who told you how good it was, don’t come running back to us!”

“In the case of any dispute that it may cause [sic], the decision of MegaBox and Autotoll will be final.”

Am I being overly grumpy tonight?  Maybe I just didn’t get enough sleep last night…
