My new home

Welcome to the new home of Hongkie Town!
There’s still a hell of a lot of work to be done here and the theme you’re looking at is just for the time being. Links, comments, RSS, etc. all being worked on!
Thanks for visiting – I really mean it!

Grats on the new site. Looks good so far if you want my opinion. I know it might only be temporary, but I find it refreshing and tbh anything looks better than the old Blogger look.
On the other hand, I don’t read your stuff for the layout. It doesn’t hurt with a new layout though.

Looks good, but white text on black is kind of hard on the eyes.

That’s a great photo of Central – did you take that ?
I read your blog because your content is great. You are insightful, informative & funny – I don’t really mind whether it has a nice pic at the top or not. Just keep blogging your wonderful posts. Thanks for sharing your world Spike. (& good luck with job search)

Hey, you can see my old place on Bowen Rd, just behind the BOC! Well, maybe.

Nice site! Was it hard work / take a lot of time to migrate all the history over? Did you loose anything?

Oh Wow, I love your new home. Spectacular theme picture there. Well done!

This is a WordPress theme that I downloaded and installed. The photo came with the theme; it’s not mine (see bottom of page for theme credit). No idea whether I will stay with this one permanently or not – it’s just something to get me started with that’s not the default theme.
Gweipo – not very hard. WP includes a tool that automatically migrates blogger content. For some reason comments did not migrate, though they should have, so still trying to work that bit out. And then a couple of minutes to migrate my Feedburner RSS feed to here – and a plugin to integrate the WP feed with the Feedburner feed. But WordPress is very different from Blogger and it will take me some time to figure out how to add in the additional pages and other content I plan to put here.

Looks great! Congrats on the move. Would you recommend using Feedburner?
Comment by admin on November 18, 2009 at 10:58 pm
I’m still using Feedburner here.

Nice job migrating everything — seems to have worked well so far.
I agree with others that it’s really the content I’m after — I’ve actually gotten some good leads from you! (re, books, movies, topics to follow up on, etc) so just looking forward to that.
Can you call yourself Spike rather than Admin?

Hi Spike, I always find your blob entertaining. The white text on black is hard on the eye.

Nice to see you with a new home

As I said, the current theme is only temporary. If someone wants to pass me the color code, I can edit the code for the template to change the value of the font to a brighter white. Just don’t have the time to search for it at the moment! But it is on my list of things to do.

Reload the page. Every post has been updated to show that they’re by Spike and not by admin – that was a couple of hours last night right there! (Though at the moment these replies probably are coming from “admin”)

P.S. Thanks for liking my “blob”!
Comment by Mark on November 19, 2009 at 7:44 am
I was actually referring to the replies to comments — those cannot come in as Spike?
Comment by Spike on November 19, 2009 at 8:30 am
Aha! I had “Spike” set as “author” and not as an “admin” but have changed that now, so this and all future comments should be coming from “Spike.” Thanks for pointing that out.

Welcome to WordPress. Actually I love the dark background for pics will stand out much better than the white you had before. Time to work on those sidebars and widgets. Happy sailing.

@Spike, not that I’m too lazy to find a whole range of suggestions, but on my way out of the door. The colorcode can easily be found in Photoshop (that I suspect you use). Just click the color palette and click “Show only web colors”….
For example:
Black: #000000
White: #ffffff
Cheers!

Hi Spike,
love your blog, great content and views but new site is hard on the eyes, getting dizzy reading white on black.
Hope you can change it soon.
