Quite by accident, I discovered that today is the day that tickets go on sale for Avatar, James Cameron’s first fiction film since Titanic.  It’s supposed to feature a new 3-D process and rumors are that the budget for the film ran as high as US$500 million.   Here’s the trailer.  Cameron’s never made a film that I haven’t enjoyed at least to some extent so I’m happy to buy tickets for this before any reviews.

In HK, the IMAX 3D version will be playing at a new theatre, the UA iSquare in Tsim Sha Tsui.  So another good reason to go, to check out the new screen.  You can book tickets online here.   Note that if you’re booking today (November 23rd), they will only accept payment via PPS.  And due to this promotion, the first several hundred or thousand who book this way will have the service charges waived.  On the other hand, the ticket price is a record-setting HK$160 per ticket.  That’s US$21 per ticket for a movie! Holy Murgatroyd!

If you’re thinking about seeing this, my advice is book now.  The last time there was a 3-D IMAX film playing in HK that I wanted to see, I waited till after it opened to try to buy tickets and it was pretty darned close to sold out for its entire run – only crappy single seats on the side of the theater available at that point.
