Finished off my latest BC column this morning and that left me all written out in a manner of speaking.

The pain in my back has eased somewhat but is still there, meaning for one thing that sleep remains somewhat elusive. I finally broke down and called my chiropractor, who of course is taking Friday afternoon off which means I have to wait till tomorrow to get my back properly cracked. In the meantime, I’ve taught my gf some Thai massage moves and that’s helping a little.

I was invited to check out the band Red Star Rising, playing tonight at Rockschool. Since they’re not on till midnight, I’ve got a few hours left to decide if I’m up to it. I’m interested to check them out but I fear I won’t be mobile enough. If you’re at home on a Friday night and reading this, why not go over and check it out and let me know what I missed.

Tomorrow night will find me at Melting Pot from about 9:30 onwards, where I’ll be judging the final heat of Global Battle of the Bands, Hong Kong edition, with ten bands scheduled to play. If you haven’t attended one of these, each band only gets to play two songs. The mix of music at these things runs from pop to punk, art to metal, and at least some of the bands are pretty good; others deserve kudos for at least getting up on stage with two original songs to try their luck in this predominantly unoriginal music city. So please think about checking it out.

Couple of minor notes ….

Someone updated me on Twitter on the Kindle thing. Seems that Amazon will ship it to Hong Kong and there is no $2 surcharge for downloaded content wirelessly in Hong Kong. That’s going to make me seriously consider this beast.

One thing I read about Roman Polanski a few days back is that he’d reached a US$500,000 settlement with his victim, but it appears possible that he’s never actually paid her the money.

Last but not least, a link to this post by Austin Bush. Bush is a travel writer and photographer who frequently blogs and photographs food. This series of photos, taken this month at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar in Bangkok earlier this month, is quite nice. Here’s the first, click over to see the rest of the series.
