Doubly Bizarre

My last post was at 1 PM. And since it mentioned 2 things in the SCMP, that means that I was looking at the SCMP web site between 12:30 and 1.
So I find it bizarre that there was a water main burst at 7:20 AM on Gloucester Road resulting in major traffic delays, and there was no mention of this on the SCMP web site until 2:18 PM.
Taking almost 5 hours to post the story, you’d think they’d have a shot at having correct grammar.
“The incident forced all traffic lanes on Gloucester Road, near Immigration Tower, to close chief transport officer Michael Ng Shi-hung said.”
Okay, a dropped comma, not that big a deal I suppose. Though this typo stands out like a sore thumb:
“Those motorists who must go to Wanchai and towards Kowloon via the Hunghom Harbour Crossing, should use alternative routes like Marsh Road or Flaming Road,” he said.
(Though I suppose “Flaming” is closer to the Cantonese pronunciation of the street name than “Fleming.”)
Oh, the Credit Mayonnaise CLSA Investors Forum is paying an undisclosed but surely not trivial sum to bring Sarah Palin to Hong Kong to give a speech on September 23rd. The speech will be closed to the media and the topic of the speech is “unconfirmed.” Outside of the obvious media value of the name, what value can she bring to Hong Kong? What wisdom could this harridan possibly impart to Asian investors? Could we get Tina Fey instead? I’d pay big bucks to hear her speak, you betcha.
The Associated Press says this marks Palin’s first trip to Asia. The same article also says she visited US troops in Kuwait in 2007. Perhaps they moved Kuwait to make it easier for her to find?
